Strategic Objective 1: grow amazing fruits and vegetables in a completely controlled environment.
The result: fresh fruits and vegetables, locally grown, all year, every year!
The first batch of lettuce was highly successful!
alo is in the process of selecting a location to build a larger R&D facility with expanded capacities. This new facility will allow for simultaneous testing of additional fruits and vegetables in multiple environments. alo is taking this next step to ensure future full-scale production facilities perform as expected.
alo intends to focus efforts on several fruit varieties that are not currently economically viable in such controlled settings, but which are vitally important, nutrient dense foods. Vegetables will continue to be part of our growing regiment, however fruits such as blackberries and even avocados are on the horizon.
Recent industry advances coupled with unique alo innovations have created an exciting environment. A 100% controlled growing environment for fruits and vegetables that were once thought inviable in such settings is now possible.
This advanced, fully controlled agriculture environment allows optimum growth conditions for every facet of plant development. Artificial light is used, allowing for extended grow times and expedited seasonality. Temperature, CO2, and humidity are maintained at ideal levels. Highly efficient watering and precise nutrient uptake are also carefully managed. While this type of growing environment has been successfully achieved with nutrient light plants such as leafy greens and with highly lucrative crops such as cannabis, it is now being utilized with community staples like blueberries, raspberries, and broccoli.
When other produce is no longer available on local store shelves, our community can be assured alo will continue supplying its premium produce to Utah... uninterrupted! While alo will eventually grow a large variety of fruits and vegetables, initial efforts will focus on a select few products. These initial products represent some of the most nutritionally important produce.
Blueberries: alo intends to be the first-in-the-world to grow blueberries for consumer consumption under such controlled conditions. The possibilities...!
Raspberries: Like blueberries, cane berries have never been commercially grown in an advanced hydroponics environment. That's all changing.
Blackberries: Another cane berry alo intends to grow in controlled, commercial quantities.
Apples: Traditionally the size and price of this fruit would not make it a viable candidate for controlled growing. Speciality varieties and new techniques are changing that.
Avocados: Massive tree size and slow maturity often exclude avocados from controlled growing. There are incredible ways around these barriers.
Carrots: alo hopes to provide our community a mix of richly flavored speciality carrots.
Broccoli: It is hoped another initial product will be specialty broccoli. This includes purple broccoli, romansco, and other more traditional varieties.
Help us build our first full-production facility so that we can begin providing fresh fruits and vegetables to our local community under any and all conditions.
